He visits one arena and makes that absobtion? So if he would have visted any other arena they would have been the heart of the USHL? I have 2 favorite teams!! The Musketeers and whoever is playing Omaha

Making that statement would suggest that he has visited more than one arena.

I have visited almost every arena in the league (missing Fargo, Columbus R.I.P. and St. Louis R.I. P.) and I can say with certainty that Waterloo has the best
atmosphere and fans that love the game. I think Lincoln is very good, but the fans there are a little more skewed towards the Oakland Raider mentality. Des
Moines can get pretty good if they have $1 beer nights, but by the end of the game most people are so blotto they don't know what is happening. Cedar
Rapids (gulp) when they are full have a great arena and atmosphere, unfortunately lately they are only full when half of the rink is Blackhawk fans. Green Bay
has a great facility, and hopefully winning will help fill it up. Sioux City is a nice building, but enthusiasm is not like it is in Waterloo. Sioux Falls
has good crowds but it is kind of like going to one of those really big churches, a popular thing to do but not real exciting. Omaha sucks for atmosphere. I
haven't been to Tri City for a couple years but the last time I was there you could have shot a cannon in there without hitting anyone, it was so empty.
Chicago, well, there is no need to even bring up Chicago, and I went to an Indiana game last year with about 2800 in attendance but I'm thinking 2100 of
them had the power to be invisible because the seats looked pretty empty.
I agree with the new guy when he says the intro and light show in Waterloo are kick-a**. I'm glad they did that it really gets me going and I know it has to get the players excited. It is better than Lincoln's light show and that is a good show to. |

I have not been to every arena, I have been to CR, Des Moines and Omaha. So, my viewpoint is a LITTLE onesided here...but...we are the smallest market team in
the league. I believe so...(waiting for someone to correct me). We are averaging a sellout (nobody other than Lincoln can even make that claim right now) and
we travel well. All of these teams don't have the fanbase we do (I know we've been here since before dirt CR fans) but when we play at CR and even DM,
typically we send hundreds of fans there. When we played at Omaha last year for the finals, I was there for the 5th and final game and out of the 5,000 people
that were there, I'd say at LEAST 1000 of them were wearing Black Hawks Red and Black. Up until before PK and the Front Office staff got here, we were the
laughing stock of the league. Now look at where we are. People WANT to come here. They call us. There are alot of good venue's in the league,
Lincoln's coming to mind 1st...but there are some teams who just don't compare when it comes to fan base, attendance etc. Omaha has to fight with UNO.
Chicago has to fight with.... Chicago...not sure about Green Bay. I think they should sell alot more tickets up there. Fargo will do well...at least at 1st.
They've had 2 teams there previously so not sure what is changing other than a new arena. CR never had hockey before 10 years ago. So it takes time to
build that base. Their attendance has gone down in the last few years after the "newness" of the team. They still have better following than many
teams in the league. Sioux City seems to have fallen off in attendance...not sure why there either. Seemed like it all started after they won their Clark Cup
a few years ago and got that new stadium.
I guess I've just simply rambled on and on for a few minutes to say I'm proud to be a Black Hawk and it would be awfully difficult to offset the fact we are the "Heart" of the USHL. Know there are some good arguments out there...but I thought the story was pretty dead on and impressive to have so many people come thru here say similar things about the atmosphere and the crowds. |

I have seen hockey all over the country in about 50 different arenas USHL, NHL,IHL,ECHL and the AHL and I can say without a doubt the fans here create an
atmosphere like no other I have seen. I have read comments the players have made over the last couple of years I have lived in Waterloo and they always say
there is nothing like playing in front of this crowd it always gets them fired up for the game. I have visited D.M. the arena and their fans made no impression
on me went to Omaha for the playoffs some of the rudest fans I have seen in a long time. This year we have plans to visit many other arenas but to be honest
they will have a hard time impressing me after what I have seen here.
How would you like your job,if every time you made a mistake,a big red light went on and half your co- workers booed you?

Good article. I didn't think the article was meant to say that Waterloo was the best thing since sliced bread, but it gave some nice compliments.
Congrats.
If I had to venture a guess, I would guess that Prince has been to many of the arenas already and has taken in a few of their openings. I have yet to see Waterloo's this year, but I am told that it rivals Lincoln's intro. |

I have to agree with Hickey, we arent sliced bread. All I know is I brought a college kid from Ireland to a Cr - Wloo game at Thanksgiving, the only other game
he had seen in Hockey was a Atlanta Thrasher game, he said the pro game didnt even come close to the excitement and intensity of the USHL game. Iwould also
agree with earlier poster that Cr is about as good as Wloo when they are filled and its an intense game....so lets all be glad we have some of the best USHL
hockey so close to us. Years ago I would have said the same about DM, but their fan base seems to have eroded, dont kow if it is the team not winning every
year like they did then or if its the inadequate stadium? they play in.

I like the DM arena, its always loud and always 3/4 filled whether they win or not and its not too big like a couple of larger arenas where you can sit a block
apart from the next fan making it blah and unfriendly.
