Well, that wasn't a hockey game as much as it was a rugby scrum with periods of something resembling hockey in between.
The final score was Green Bay 4, Waterloo 3. The deciding goal was a shorty by GB in the third period. Sorry, I didn't keep good notes of who had the goals (trying to corral two 4-year-old girls at the same time limited that...)
I wouldn't say the game was sloppy, but it was chippy throughout - mostly rising from incidents in front of both goalies after the whistle. I think the ref - McNulty - tried pretty hard to keep a handle, but it ended up being a string of penalties. I bet there were 3, 4 or maybe even 5 5-on-3s. Waterloo took the brunt of penalties early, but it certainly evened out. I bet the longest we went 5-on-5 was 5:00 - if that.
And, one odd incident. Waterloo's George Hughes got hit a center ice. A clean hit and hard, but not "oh my god" hard. He turned, took off his helmet and gloves near center ice and skated to the bench. I've never seen that before. He did not return. I hope he wasn't seriously hurt.
So, I expect a brawl-fest tomorrow at Young Arena... of course, I say that and maybe they got it out of their system tonight!
